Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has proposed to a Glasgow-based beautician, Donna Tierney, with a ‘mega expensive diamond ring’ after she showed off her ring on her Instagram page

Jermain Defoe has proposed to Scottish beautician Donna Tierney, 39, with a huge diamond ring.

The former Tottenham striker appeared to have popped the question to Tierney after she showed off her diamond ring on Instagram story on Wednesday.

The ring is believed to be worth tens of thousands of pounds.

Tierney is a Glasgow based beautician.

Her most recent Instagram post shows an image tagged at Ibrox when the side were playing Malmo in the Champions League's qualifying round.

Tierney captioned the post: "J #ForeverEver," and she added a love heart emoji, and Defoe responded with an emoji of a diamond ring.

"Donna was so thrilled at the effort Jermain went to. It was so romantic," a source close to the pair told the Daily Record.

"Signing for Rangers has turned out to be the best decision he’s ever made.

"He not only won the league title but found the woman of his dreams. They’re both beyond happy."

Tierney also posted a photo of her on Instagram at Ibrox earlier this summer.

The beautician was overlooking a pre-season friendly between Rangers and Brighton.

She captioned the post: "I’ve got my eyes on you," with a love heart emoji.

Defoe claimed his first-ever winners medal last season as part of Steven Gerrard's Rangers squad who managed to beat Celtic to the title.

The former England international joined Rangers in 2018, but he has found game time hard to come by with Alfredo Morales and Kemar Roofe starting ahead of him.
