Bayern Munich chief gives contract update on Man United-linked Goretzka

Man United linked with Goretzka

It has been clear for a while now that the Reds need reinforcements in midfield.

Nemanja Matic is now past his best, leaving United without a quality defensive midfielder.

This has led Solskjaer to start both Scott McTominay and Fred in a midfield pivot.

However, this selection creates a number of problems, forcing Paul Pogba to be played out of position

Even more concerning, though, is the fact that, even when Fred and McTominay start together, United’s midfield can still look shaky at times.

So, it is quite apparent that one of Man United’s top priorities at the moment should be signing a quality no.6-type player who can sit deep and allow the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes advanced, attacking, central roles.

One central midfielder to have been linked with the Red Devils of late has been Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.

Reports stemming from Germany linked United with a move for the German last week.

Bayern CEO on Goretzka & Coman contract situations

Goretzka could, on paper, also potentially be available at somewhat of a cut-price fee for Man United or any other potential suitors.

This is because the midfielder currently only has one year left on his current contract, meaning Bayern’s best option is likely to either sell him this summer to ensure he is not lost on a free next year, or tie him down to a new deal.

Obviously, Man United would prefer the first option if they are indeed interested in signing him.

However, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn has been speaking about both Goretzka and Kingsley Coman’s contract situations recently and his comments do point towards the pair penning new deals:

“We are in very, very good talks with both players, and I’m very optimistic.

“We have a great package to offer; you always have the chance to win big titles with us, and to help shape an era. Both are very, very important players, absolute top players.”
