Man City higher-ups have sanctioned potential transfer for Erling Haaland

Man City 'emerging as favourites' for Haaland

Erling Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund in January of 2020, and he has since gone on to notch a sensational record both domestically and in Europe.

All told, Haaland has scored 49 goals in just 49 outings for BVB, a return which only top players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski are usually able to provide in Europe's top-five leagues.

The 20-year-old's contract is believed to contain a release clause of around £65m, but that is not due to be active until 2022.

So, any side hoping to land the hitman in the coming summer window will likely be forced to pay a premium fee.

One side, though, who would no doubt be able to pay pretty much whatever Dortmund demand are big-money-backed Manchester City.

The Sky Blues have been linked with the hitman of late, with it even claimed earlier this month that Pep Guardiola's men have emerged as favourites to sign Haaland.

Man City eyeing Haaland

And now, a further insight into City's rumoured interest in Haaland has been provided on Monday.

As per Sam Lee – The Athletic's Manchester City correspondent – the Citizens' representatives spoke to Haaland's father a couple of weeks ago.

Lee goes on to state that the club's 'top brass' have already sanctioned a potential transfer, with the wheels now firmly in motion.
