Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte is wanted by Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants are monitoring the French defender’s situation at the Etihad Stadium as he struggles to break back into Pep Guardiola’s side.
Laporte, 26, is under contract until 2025 and it would take an offer close to the £57million City paid for him in January 2018 to lure him to the Bernabeu next summer.
Much could depend on the number of first-team opportunities Laporte gets between now and the end of the campaign.
Laporte's future might be away from the Etihad
The ex-Athletic Bilbao man has made just 14 appearances in all competitions in 2020-21.
He was only handed a start in Saturday's game against Tottenham because of illness to Ruben Dias.
Having been a City regular since his arrival, Laporte, who has also struggled with a hamstring injury this term, was dropped after a poor performance in the 2-0 defeat at Spurs in November.
And the incredible form of John Stones and Dias in the centre of defence since then has made it virtually impossible for him to win back his place with the Quadruple chasers.
Now Real Madrid are expected to test City’s resolve to keep Laporte, who will consider his options should he continue to remain frustrated on the fringes.
