Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sent a heartwarming letter to a young supporter who asked him for advice about dealing with anxiety.

When 11-year-old Lewis Balfe was nervous about starting secondary school last month, a family friend suggested writing a letter to one of his heroes for advice.

And being a massive Liverpool fan, the youngster decided to try and get in touch with Reds manager Klopp.

He did not expect to receive a reply, yet to his astonishment a return correspondence soon dropped through his letterbox from the German himself.

Klopp said in the touching letter: “Hello Lewis, can I start by telling you a secret?

“I get nervous. To be totally honest I would be worried if I did not get nervous because when it happens it gives me the chance to turn the energy into something positive.

“I know it might be strange for a boy of your age to think that the Liverpool can feel the way that you do, but I do.

He then added: “You do not need to worry about bad things happening .

“As you know, I lost more than a fair few finals and this isn't a good feeling, but with the help of family and friends I kept going and in the end we were able to enjoy some really good times.

“If I had dwelled on the bad moments, I know that this would not have been possible, so please be positive about yourself and look forward to the brilliant time that I know that you will have growing up.”

Lewis’ mum Milena has spoken to the Liverpool Echo about her son’s reaction to receiving the letter, while heaping praise on Klopp for acknowledging her son.

“Lewis was quite overwhelmed, and in complete shock, it was a personal letter back from Klopp,” she said.

“It's lovely of him, really nice.

“We went straight to the shop to get a frame as Lewis was worried about it getting damaged and it's now on is desk in his bedroom.”
