Chelsea star Willian has attracted transfer interest from Manchester United ahead of the summer.

Chelsea star Willian could move to Manchester United because he wants to stay in England, reports say. The Brazil international is poised to become a free agent at the end of the season. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could swoop for the winger, whose time at Stamford Bridge is drawing to a close.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard remains a fan of Willian having played alongside the Brazil international during his own career.

But the Blues are now looking to the future and the Brazil international doesn’t fit in their plans for the long term.

Chelsea have won the Premier League twice since Willian arrived, in 2015 under Jose Mourinho and in 2017 when Antonio Conte ruled the Stamford Bridge roost.

But they’re poised to lose him on a free transfer having failed to give the Samba star the three-year contract he craves.

And the Daily Mail say he could now make a move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils interested in securing his signature.

It’s claimed that Willian wants to stay in England if possible despite also being linked with La Liga giants Barcelona, who failed to sign him 12 months ago.

And that could open the door to a spectacular move to United as Solskjaer targets Premier League title glory next season.

United have raided Chelsea for two of their players in recent years.

They snapped up Juan Mata from the Blues in January 2014, back when David Moyes was manager. The Spaniard had been deemed surplus to requirements by Mourinho, despite being their player of the season the previous year.

And, in 2017, United secured the signing of Nemanja Matic on a short-term deals.

The Red Devils could even move for Willian as an alternative to top transfer target Jadon Sancho, with Ed Woodward unwilling to meet Borussia Dortmund’s huge asking price.

But where the 31-year-old ends up is something only time will tell.

Meanwhile, speaking about transfers recently, United boss Solskjaer admitted he was unsure how much he’d have to spend on new recruits.

"I think the pandemic has hit everyone really hard," said the Norwegian.

"I still think we need to wait and see how things are panning out to know the real effects of the pandemic, to know what kind of financial state we are in.

"You see some teams invest, some teams don't.

"We'll have to take a big look at things ourselves to see how hard we've been hit. I know the club has announced a few numbers before.

"It's not for me to say here now we are going to have X amount because I don't really know.

"I don't really know how hard we have been hit. We are a financially strong club, but we are also probably being hit more than anybody else.

"Let's see how quickly we can get our fans back into the stadium and of course the league position is going to be important for us this season. If we can get a trophy, the FA Cup or the Europa League.

"The Europa League will also qualify us for the Champions League, there's still a lot of uncertainty and these three or four months, every businessman in the world, every footballer in the world, I think everyone is still unsure what the effect will be."
