Omar Bugiel’s first-half strike saw Sutton end a run of five games without a win after a 1-0 victory over Bromley at Hayes Lane.
It was a seventh defeat in their last eight games for Bromley and they have now dropped three points off the play-off places, having been top at the beginning of November.
Bromley enjoyed some early pressure, but it was the hosts that broke the deadlock in the 16th minute against the run of play.
Bugiel drilled home with the U’s first shot on target of the game.
Bromley coach Alan Dunne was sent in the stands in the 61st minute as his side pressed for an equaliser, but Sutton held firm as first Nikola Tzanev turned aside Luke Coulson’s shot and then Adrian Clifton shot narrowly wide.
Luke Coulson was denied an equaliser 17 minutes from time when his close-range effort was turned away by Nikola Tzanev.
