Man United 'in prime position' to land Jadon Sancho this summer – Castles

Manchester United are the leading English candidates to secure a summer deal for Jadon Sancho, according to journalist Duncan Castles.

Sancho's meteoric rise

19-year-old winger Sancho proved one of the talking points of European football last season.

The English youngster, who made the move to Borussia Dortmund from Man City in the summer of 2017 for £8 million, built on the potential that he showcased at the Westfalenstadion in 2017/18 with a string of sensational displays over the course of the campaign.

The pace, trickery, eye for goal and creative flair possessed by Sancho have seen him rise from exciting but raw prospect to one of world football's most highly-regarded starlets.

In total, last season, the blistering wide-man racked up 13 goals and a hefty 19 assists across all competitions.

The first-half+ of the new campaign, meanwhile, has seen Sancho's production reach even more impressive heights.

Despite it only being February, the 11-time capped English international has already notched 16 goals, to go along with 18 assists.

Chelsea swoop

As such, Sancho's stellar form in Germany has inevitably seen the teen linked with a potential return to the Premier League.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been named as expressing a keen interest in the Dortmund starlet.

As per the aforementioned update courtesy of Manchester United reporter Duncan Castles, though, it is the Red Devils who appear to have stolen a march on the English competition for Sancho's signature.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Transfer Window Podcast, Castles provided an insight into United's summer transfer targets, including Jack Grealish and James Maddison.

Significantly, it was then added that the Old Trafford powerhouse are in 'prime position' to secure a deal for Sancho.

This comes amid claims that 'other clubs' (presumably the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool) have backed off, based on the hefty fee no doubt set to be involved in any transfer:

'If you take Baty at his word, and he said he didn't want to guide specifically on how much they would spend next season, but was indicating they are in a better place to buy players, that you will see more transfer activity this summer and more money being spent on some of those deals that they've been lining up, trying to get individuals or talking and doing work on individuals like Jack Grealish, who they tried to sign in January but were knocked back by Aston Villa, James Maddison, Jadon Sancho, who they now are in prime position of a Premier League club to get Jadon Sancho because of the way other clubs have acted and the price involved in doing that.'
