John Coleman wants Accrington to keep it up after thrilling win over Lincoln

John Coleman hopes Accrington can now look up the table after Sam Finley scored an injury-time winner in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Lincoln.

Stanley leapfrogged the Imps in the table, up to 14th place, after the dramatic win, in which they went behind three times.

Anthony Scully put Lincoln ahead in the 30th minute before a Jason Shackell own goal levelled the scores six minutes later.

Three minutes after the break, visiting keeper Josh Vickers kept out a Dion Charles penalty.

Substitute Aaron Lewis had only been on the pitch for three minutes when he headed Lincoln back in front in the 53rd minute.

It was then Stanley’s turn for a super sub as Joe Pritchard had only been on the pitch for two minutes when, with 20 minutes to go, he rifled home from 25 yards.

The unmarked Shackell headed home in the 76th minute before Seamus Conneely once again levelled for Stanley two minutes later.

There was time for late drama, with Finley stroking the ball home from 15 yards for the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

“It was a cracking game for the neutral,” said Coleman. “I don’t think either side deserved to lose so I am delighted we got the win.

“We showed a lot of character and had to really dig in, in what was difficult conditions.

“You have got to take your hat off to Lincoln as they played some really good football, as we did.

“It is a bit frustrating as we did well in December, and got Manager of the Month, and it should be Team of the Month, but then we let ourselves down in January.

“If we had carried on the solid form in January we would have been challenging for the play-offs now but we just have to keep going now.

“That’s three wins in a row and we are full of confidence which is why I never felt like we would lose today.”

Imps boss Michael Appleton was furious with his side – and singled out his senior players for criticism.

Lincoln have now lost five out of their last six games.

Appleton said: “There was some criminal defending at times by our senior players, we have made a lot of the young players coming in but they have done well.

“It’s the senior players who, for the last six or seven games, have let the side down and it’s happened again.

“I keep putting my trust in players and they are letting us down so there has to be changes.

“The younger players showed maturity but it’s the senior players who worry me, they look petrified.

“Confidence is low at the moment, five defeats in six games doesn’t help any team, it’s not a good record.

“I do not like using excuses. We went ahead on three occasions and you shouldn’t lose a game if you do that.

“If you say things in the dressing room after a match they don’t always sink in but a few players will be told exactly what I think on Monday.”
