Alexander believes Salford deserved three points

Salford boss Graham Alexander cut a disappointed figure after his side were held 0-0 at home by Crawley.

The Ammies created the bulk of the chances during the Peninsula Stadium clash and are now unbeaten in five matches, but Alexander feels his side deserved the three points.

Alexander said: “We completely dominated the game, we should have won it.

“If we’d have come away with a three or four-nil victory I don’t think anyone in the stadium could have complained or argued.

“The players were excellent. We got in some really good areas, but we just couldn’t hit the target for one reason or another.

“Good goalkeeping kept us out too.

“Looking at the performance as a whole, I couldn’t have asked for much more.

“We just need to improve our finishing I guess.

“We created a real variation of chances over the course of the 90 minutes, but we just needed that goal we’d deserved.

“I’m pleased with the clean sheet, but it just seems like we’re missing that golden touch here for whatever reason.

“We didn’t make any mistakes that I can think of, not in general play anyway, it was just one of those days in the end.”

Salford went close early on when Bruno Andrade’s thunderbolt was palmed away by diving goalkeeper Glenn Morris.

Crawley’s best chance of the first period came when Josh Dacres-Cogley played in Ollie Palmer, but he scuffed his shot.

Visiting defender Manny Adebowale glanced a header just off target early in the second half, while at the other end Ash Hunter turned superbly to meet Jack Baldwin’s pass before volleying inches over.

Salford sub Richie Towell was unlucky late on when his goal-bound strike was blocked by Jordan Tunnicliffe.

Crawley boss John Yems was not impressed with the quality of the game at all, although his improving side have now lost just once in 10 games.

Yems added: “That was a really hard game for us, it was a real battle.

“To be honest I thought it was one of the worst games I’ve seen in quite some time, but to come away with a point from Salford is quite satisfying.

“Our players never rolled over.

“Football isn’t just about shape and formations, sometimes it’s about toughness with players, and whether they can stay in the game when the going gets tough.

“You’ve got to have that desire too – that’s the minimum I expect.

“We’re still learning as a squad.

“I’ve been here two and a half months now, but it feels more like I’ve been around ever since Nelson was a cabin boy.

“We’re making progress, though, and this is a difficult place to come to and get a point.”
