Tottenham are without Harry Kane until April at the earliest leaving Jose Mourinho short of options.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy that he wants the club to bring in a target man in the January transfer window. Tottenham have been playing without an out-and-out striker ever since Harry Kane went down with a hamstring injury.

Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura have occupied the central role in recent weeks, but Tottenham are set for at least three months without being able to select Kane.

It has led to suggestions the club could target another striker in the January window, with a number of names being linked to the north London outfit.

AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek has emerged as a top target, with talk over a potential short-term loan deal.

Porto forward Ze Luis and Christian Benteke have also been touted as potential targets for Tottenham.

What’s clear from Mourinho is though that he does want to sign a striker this month, but only if they’re able to sign a big man up top.

“These are three names out of 30,” he said.

“Lots of names are coming and the majority of them are coming by players entourage, agents, people that want to put players' names in the market.

“Do we need a striker? Yes, if possible yes, but it has to be a positive situation for us so in this moment we have these attacking players that of course are very good: Son, Lucas, Lamela, Lo Celso, Dele Alli.

“Of course they're very good but we miss that target man.

“So if it's possible then we are doing everything possible.

“It's not easy but we're trying to add players to the squad.”

But Mourinho seems at least content with having to play without an out-and-out striker if they fail to bring one in this window.

“It's possible to play every match to win, even without a striker,” he added.

“We did that against Liverpool. We played to win, we try to win. We did that against Middlesbrough, we will do that tomorrow.

“So with striker or without a striker, we are going to try and win matches.”
