Jack Redshaw on the spot as Halifax beat Chesterfield

Jack Redshaw’s second-half penalty proved enough as Halifax returned to winning ways with a 1-0 National League victory over Chesterfield at The Shay
Halifax midfielder Cameron King tested Shwan Jalal early on but his shot was forced wide, while Jack McKay went on a run down the right for Chesterfield before his cross went out for a corner.
King continued to press midway through the first half but this time Jay Sheridan blocked his effort.
The away side had their first real chance as the half-hour approached but Mike Fondop-Talom’s header sailed past the post and Charlie Cooper was denied for Halifax on the stroke of half-time as the scores remained level at the break.
Josh Staunton headed over the crossbar as the second half got under way with the home side still searching for an opener.
Their patience paid off as Redshaw picked out the bottom-left corner with a penalty after 66 minutes as he sent Jalal the wrong way after being brought down in the box.
Redshaw almost doubled the lead for the Shaymen 12 minutes from time after combining well with King, but his effort was denied before Staunton’s long-range strike was put behind.
