Plymouth boss disappointed with Lowe goal tally at Crawley

Ryan Lowe described Plymouth’s 2-2 draw at Crawley as a “good point” but felt they could have scored five on another day.

A late penalty by substitute Ollie Palmer rescued a share of the spoils for Crawley after two goals in the space of six minutes by Joe Edwards had put Plymouth ahead.

The Pilgrims, who had gone behind to an early Reece Grego-Cox goal, dominated possession for long periods in the second half and Lowe was relieved to halt a run of three successive away league defeats.

The former Bury manager said: “We dominated a team that are going really well, but only ended up with a point.

“All respect to Crawley because they are a good side, but really and truly we could have scored five.

“I`m gutted for the boys because the performance they`ve put in is worth more than a point.”

Lowe has been critical of his side`s poor defending of crosses, and this weakness was again evident when Grego-Cox headed in a cross by Bez Lubala for the opener.

Lowe said: “I`m disappointed with the first goal, but the reaction afterwards was outstanding.

“If we out-score teams I`ll be happy. We have got a point and having lost our previous away game I can`t have many complaints.”

Crawley head coach Gabriele Cioffi played down his side`s achievement of climbing to seventh place in Sky Bet League Two after an entertaining tussle.

The Reds have lost only once in league and cup since the opening day of the season and Cioffi said he is delighted with the battling qualities that they are showing.

The Italian said: “We have had two tough games and I am proud of the boys. Our first target is to get to 50 points.

“I`m happy with a point as it was a big game for Plymouth with pressure on them being billed as favourites at the start of the season.”

Crawley have scored in every league game since March 30 and Cioffi felt their desire to keep going and get something out of the game was admirable.

He added: “It wasn`t easy for us, but we showed personality and mentality; it is in our DNA.

“We are humble, hard-working people. Our first target is 50 points and then maybe it will be time to set other goals.”
