Lowe says he is not interested in tables in August after Plymouth go second

Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe insisted league tables are not important in August after his side soared to second in League Two courtesy of a 3-0 home win over Walsall despite finishing with 10 men.

Striker Ryan Taylor’s 13th and 89th-minute strikes sandwiched substitute Antoni Sarcevic’s clinical 82nd-minute finish.

Sarcevic was sent off in the 85th minute for a midfield challenge on Stuart Sinclair.

Argyle boss Lowe said: “That’s 10 points from a possible 15, two points a game, we’ll take that for now but league tables aren’t important in the first month.”

Speaking about Sarcevic’s red card, Lowe added: “We will address it. We’ve looked at it and don’t feel it was a red card.

“I thought the first half we were very good again and we got the early goal.

“Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition and I will always say it because they are not just coming here to roll over.

“We did have to work hard, and we felt we could to break them down and I think we certainly did that.

“They put a few tests to us and we had to pull off a few good saves, make a few blocks and deal with corners and what not.

“Without going on too much about it I thought on Tuesday we warranted three goals (against Salford) and today we warranted three goals and a clean sheet and we got it.

“I am absolutely over the moon for Ryan Taylor because he did say he can score goals and we know he can.

“Today he got two great goals. The first goal we’ve done a bit of work on it and when it comes into fruition it’s excellent.

“Then Sarc gets in to the right area for the second one and the third one (goalkeeper) Alex Palmer has got an assist with a great kick.

“Ryan’s had the desire to get on the end of it and smash it in.”

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke admitted: “I’m disappointed with a points total of five after five games and yet another game we are looking to change momentum in the game and we didn’t do it in the final third.

“It’s frustrating. We had a lot of the ball, worked good opportunities, got into good areas and didn’t take care of the final pass or final shot.

“We have got to get back to it on Monday morning and make sure we rectify what we need to be working on again.

“My defence has been superb for the majority of the five games and today they have had a bit of an off day.

“When you have got the opportunity to change momentum, turn the crowd, to get the equaliser then all of a sudden that changes the complexion of the game.

“We are not doing that. We are not taking our opportunities and that is what is costing us.

“We will go away and analyse it on Monday but you have seen the areas we have worked the ball in, we have had more possession than Plymouth but possession doesn’t win you football matches.”
