Huddersfield Town vs Manchester United - Siewert demands bravery

Jan Siewert said his Huddersfield side “have to be brave” as they host top-four chasing Manchester United in their final Premier League home game on Sunday.

The Terriers have lost 10 out of their last 11 matches, and their last three at home but Siewert believes they can get a result against Manchester United at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Huddersfield boss wants his players to start turning their fortunes around now, as they prepare for next season in the Championship.

“We have to be brave against Manchester United,” Siewert said, adding that Jurgen Klopp complimented Huddersfield for their bravery in last Friday’s 5-0 defeat at Anfield.

“I want to see bravery. We have to start now, not next year.”

With United still in the fight for fourth place and a spot in the Champions League, Siewert insisted already-relegated Huddersfield also have an interest in the game.

“Maybe players are playing at home for the last time.

“They want to give an impression to leave in supporters’ minds if they do leave and there are others who are fighting for their future and want to give an impression for me.

“We have three different scenarios.

“Ones who will leave, ones who are fighting for their future and ones who know they are in my plans.

“Those are three important reasons to fight for this club.”

Siewert added he had already made his mind up about which players he wants to work with from the current squad, and the players were already aware of their future situation.

Looking forward to next season, the German manager said he wanted the club to move forward but was unwilling to be drawn into specific targets.

“We have to think of how we prepare for next season, that’s important.

“It would be great to get back up but we have to work to get the right structure and a positive spirit for winning, setting a target. It’s small steps.”

The club has been planning for next season since Siewert’s appointment in mid-January, and the 36-year-old has been working with the club’s head of recruitment over how to transform the squad.

He added: “It’s a huge summer. For me it’s just important that we as a club have our profile in how we want to be next year.

“I really looking forward to next year, to be fair I can’t wait that this season finishes and next season starts.”
