Messi having none of it
Lionel Messi has hit out after he was criticised for leaving the Argentina national team midway through the international break due to an injury.
Messi made a sensational return to the national team last week having retired last year.
However, his return really didn't get off to a great start.
His team were embarrassingly beaten 3-1 by Venezuela.
Messi then decided to return to Barcelona due to an injury he picked up before the international break.
That meant he would miss the game with Morroco and Messi was criticised for leaving the team as Argentina laboured to a 1-0 win.
Now, the Argentine has hit back at those who criticised him for leaving.
"They are always making things up about me"
Speaking this week, Messi explained that people are painting him as the bad guy.
"I'm used to what they say about me, they are always making things up about me," Messi explained to Radio 94.7, as cited by ESPN.
"Nothing surprises me.
"There are a lot of lies being told and it makes me angry because people believe what they say. Anybody can say anything, people buy into it and then I'm the bad guy.
"The truth is I went into the international break with a strain I've had since before the winter break. It's a complicated groin issue. I feel better, but I have to look after myself."
In the most heartbreaking section of his interview, Messi even revealed that son Thiago is even confused when he is criticised so heavily in his homeland.
"My 6-year-old son [Thiago] even asked me why they crucify me in Argentina," he revealed.
Lionel Messi claims he misses Cristiano Ronaldo
Messi has also been speaking about Cristiano Ronaldo this week.
In fact, he has revealed he misses the former Real Madrid man.
