United have a mountain to climb in the Parc des Princes tomorrow night if they are to reach the quarter finals.

The English giants trail 2-0 from the first leg at Old Trafford and no one gives them a hope against the French champions.

No team has ever come back from a home leg defeat of 2-0 to go through in the European Cup knockout stages.

To make the size of United's task ever greater, PSG have scored in 23 consecutive European games both home and away since April 2016.

It's likely United will have to score three times to go through, which would be quite a feat considering Solskjaer's depleted side are without the likes of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard.

United have won 13 of 16 games since Solskjaer came in, including eight on the bounce on their travels.

But United have won just one knockout game in the Champions League since 2011 - and that was against Greek minnows Olympiakos.

Overcoming the French champions in their own backyard would be something on a different level altogether for United.

But Solskjær admits football can do funny things to people and that if United score first it could send PSG into a panic.

PSG took a 4-0 lead into a last 16 second leg clash in Barcelona in 2017, but crumbled 6-1 in the Nou Camp to crash out.

Solskjaer said: "Its a difficult task but we can do it. We need to put a plan in place and stick to it.

"Obviously we need the first goal and we need to stay in the game.

"Everyone knows we have done it before. Some of the results in the Champions League these last few years have been strange.

"There are so many examples of teams that can change results like this.

"We've been fantastic away from home against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal - so that gives us the belief we need.

"Of course we can do it. It's not a lost cause. No one belives in you, but there is always that bit of character in you - and you have to show yourself.

"These players are not used to losing. At our best we can match them.

"It's never mission impossible. It will be difficult but anything can happen.

"Football is a mental game. Goals always change games and if we get the first one we will be believing - and maybe they (PSG) might start doubting themselves.

"The outside pressure is off. People will expect us to go out and go out easily.

"But you will see players giving their all. We have got a really good chance."

Solskjær, meanwhile, has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will be our for up to six weeks with damaged knee ligaments.
