RAHEEM STERLING has been heavily supported by Premier League colleagues after he accused the media of “fuelling racism” in the aftermath of incidents at Chelsea on Saturday.

The Manchester City winger was subjected to verbal abuse from Chelsea fans yesterday as his side lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

As Sterling retrieved a ball near the advertising boarding, a collection of Chelsea fans shouted vitriolic words at the 24-year-old.

One fan appears to shout ”f**king black c**t, f**k off" towards Sterling, while another is alleged to have yelled "f**k you, you c**t”.

The video capturing the abuse quickly spread on social media and Sterling confronted the issue in a post on Instagram on Sunday morning.

Alongside a picture of two MailOnline articles which reported two Manchester City players - one white, one black - buying houses for their mums in contrasting lights, Sterling wrote: “Good morning I just want to say, I am not normally the person to talk a lot but when I think I need my point to heard I will speak up.

"Regarding what was said at the Chelsea game as you can see by my reaction I just had to laugh because I don't expect no better.

"For example you have two young players starting out there careers both play for the same team, both have done the right thing.

"Which is buy a new house for there mothers who have put in a lot of time and love into helping them get where they are, but look how the newspapers get their message across for the young black player and then for the young white payer.

"I think this in unacceptable both innocent have not done a thing wrong but just by the way it has been worded. This young black kid is looked at in a bad light.

"Which helps fuel racism an aggressive behaviour, so for all the news papers that don't understand why people are racist in this day and age all I have to say is have a second thought about fair publicity an give all players an equal chance."

And an array of Premier League stars have supported Sterling’s message.

City team-mates Phil Foden, who was the subject of one of the articles cited by Sterling, Ederson and Kyle Walker all commented with clapping emojis, as did Leicester winger Demarai Gray, Brighton defender Leon Balogun and Bournemouth striker Josh King.

Former team-mate Jadon Sancho commented with a praise emoji, as did Stoke’s Saido Berahino and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replied “Real talk,” with a clapping emoji, while Yannick Bolasie posted a similar message.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum said “Respect”, while City colleague Fabian Delph posted “Well said brother”.

Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa proclaimed “Spot on fam. We are one world” while former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay and ex-Tottenham midfielder responded with first bump emojis.

Rio Ferdinand, whose brother Anton was the subject of alleged racial abuse from John Terry in 2011, posted the video of the abuse, his caption reading: “Are we going to continue to allow this type of racist behaviour go on???

“All for kicking a ball!”
