Colchester and Exeter share the spoils

Sammie Szmodics’ stunning strike was cancelled out by Jayden Stockley’s scruffy finish as Colchester and Exeter drew 1-1.
A sensational volley from Szmodics gave the home side the lead but they were soon pegged back as Stockley bundled home to level things up.
The result leaves Colchester third in League Two, with Exeter a point behind in sixth.
Colchester had had the better of it in the first hour of the game, and deserved their lead when Szmodics lashed home a fine strike after being set up by Courtney Senior in the 67th minute.
Their hopes of making it eight wins out of 10 at the JobServe Community Stadium were hit three minutes later, though, as City striker Stockley was on hand to force the ball over the line after it had twice been blocked by the U’s defence.
The two scorers went close again in the final 20 minutes, with Stockley’s free-kick going inches wide, but it ended all square between the two promotion chasing sides.
