The full-back was pictured wearing a keffiyeh on is head, along with two cardboard boxes wrapped with tape and the word "attention" written on them in German.

It comes after a string of suicide bomb attacks by Islamic extremists at places including Manchester and Pakistan in recent years.

And the Brazilian – who is pictured with other members of the Bayern squad – later apologised for the costume.

He wrote on Twitter, translated by the social media site: "Halloween is a scary feast with exaggerated costumes.

"It was not my intention to annoy anyone through my disguise or to hurt his feelings."

However, his costume choice sparked a wave of anger and the post was met with calls to delete it.

One wrote on social media: "We demand an official statement from the club about the shameful act of Rafinha."

Jake Buckley, a YouTuber, said: "This is what Bayern Munich player Rafinha dressed up as for Halloween.

"How anyone, let alone a bloke with millions of followers, thought it'd be funny to dress up as an Arab with two massive f*** off C4 bombs is beyond me."

Another fumed at the German club: "Portraying Arabs as terrorists and you're OK with it?

"This is really in bad taste. Are you tone deaf or what? What a disappointment."

And another said: "Seriously, someone dressed up as a bomber?"

Initially the image of the squad was shared by Bayern, before it was later taken down.
