A clinical hat-trick from Matt Crooks saw Northampton Town record a comprehensive 5-0 victory over League Two bottom side Macclesfield Town.
Three goals from Crooks and a composed finish from Daniel Powell put the Cobblers four goals ahead at the break before Aaron Pierre added the gloss late on to secure the visitors their first away league victory since August.
Crooks – who had not previously scored in over a month – gave Northampton the lead after 23 minutes with a superb curling effort from the edge of the area.
The hat-trick hero doubled the advantage for Keith Curle’s side on the 33-minute mark as he turned in a Jack Bridge cross from close range.
As a result, Macclesfield crumbled and Powell capitalised on a sloppy error to put Northampton further ahead with a calm finish past Rhys Taylor.
The Cobblers’ first-half display was made all the sweeter when Crooks, moving onto his favoured right foot, curled another delightful strike into the top corner.
Northampton rounded off their emphatic victory in the 93rd minute when Aaron Pierre poked the ball home.
