Shaun McWilliams set for Northampton return when Tranmere visit

Shaun McWilliams could make his Northampton return for the visit of Tranmere this weekend.

The midfielder has not featured since injuring his hamstring on the opening day of the season but was back in training last week and is now pushing for a recall.

Fellow midfielder John-Joe O’Toole has appeared as a substitute in each of Northampton’s last two matches and could come into contention for a starting berth.

Cobblers boss Dean Austin has no new injury or suspension concerns as his side look to build on their first Sky Bet League Two win of the season at Colchester last Saturday.

Franklyn Akammadu could make his Tranmere debut after missing last week’s win over Port Vale because international clearance had not arrived in time.

The 20-year-old forward, who joined Rovers on loan last week from Italian side US Alessandria for the rest of the season, may be included in the matchday squad for the first time.

Defender Zoumana Bakayogo could return from a calf injury but midfielder Jay Harris will definitely miss out as he completes a three-game suspension.

Defensive pair Adam Buxton and Liam Ridehalgh are on the comeback trail from injury but are unlikely to return at Sixfields.
