And it was revealed that last season the teenager impressed his famous dad with his analysis of United's defeats.

Mourinho, in a documentary with Portuguese broadcaster SIC, said: "I'll tell you something that only my assistants knew.

"In a period of a few bad results one day, he comes up with some analysis on my team — obviously suffering because Dad wasn't doing well.

"We had lost to Watford and Manchester City, I think, and he came with the stats of the team. I showed them to my assistants and I told them, 'Be careful as one day this boy will take one of your places'.

"But in fact I compare him with me at his age, where I would try to do the same sort of things for my dad — of course with different technology methods, but analysis from a kid aged 16 then."

Jose Jr — known as Zuca by his family — was on a work experience placement when his father invited him to the game as he had a weekend off studying.

The youngster is a goalkeeper, just like Mourinho's late father Felix, and was on Fulham's books until he was released a year ago.

At a celebrity charity game in aid of Grenfell victims in September, Mourinho himself played between the sticks.
