Inverness continued their impressive recent form with a 2-0 victory at Queen of the South, moving them to within two points of their sixth-placed opponents.
First-half goals Nathan Austin and George Oakley set Caley Thistle on their way to a fourth win during a six-match unbeaten run.
Austin opened the scoring in the ninth minute with his first goal for the club, the former Falkirk and East Fife forward firing a low shot past Jack Leighfield.
Mark Ridgers kept the visitors ahead with saves from Joseph Thomson and Stephen Dobbie before Oakley made it 2-0 in the 30th minute.
The striker headed home Liam Polworth’s cross to bring up his 10th goal of the season in all competitions.
Dobbie, the Championship’s leading scorer, twice saw efforts saved by Ridgers, while Derek Lyle hit the crossbar late on as the sixth-placed hosts tried to get back into the game, but without success.
