Ben Fox fires dramatic winner for Gateshead

Ben Fox’s late goal earned Gateshead a dramatic 2-1 Vanarama National League victory over Maidstone after substitute goalkeeper James Montgomery had saved a penalty with his first touch.
Lewis McNall had given the hosts the perfect start – on his first start – with a neat third-minute opener, only for Jai Reason to equalise from the penalty spot 16 minutes later after Patrick McLaughlin’s foul on Stuart Lewis.
Gateshead lost goalkeeper Dan Hanford to a red card in the 75th minute for bringing down Reason, but Montgomery’s first involvement was to save Reason’s spot-kick.
And the 10 men defied the odds to emerge triumphant as Fox fired a brilliant free-kick into the top-left corner three minutes from time to lift his side above their opponents and up to 14th in the table.
