Lautaro Martinez agrees to Atletico Madrid move

Negotiations between Atletico Madrid and Racing Club for starlet Lautaro Martinez are believed to be in the advanced stages, with the player agreeing on a deal to join the rojiblancos next season.

The 20-year-old had been heavily linked with a move from the Avellaneda-based side, and the two clubs are said to enjoy close ties due to Diego Simeone's time there as player and coach.

Reports suggest that Atleti will be hoping that a 12 million euro bid during the winter transfer window will be enough to convince Racing to part with their youngster next summer.

Should that fail, Simeone is prepared to execute the player's buy-out clause which would see Martinez join the club in January alongside Diego Costa.

Despite Racing's attempts to pour cold water over the transfer rumours, Lautaro himself has admitted that he is flattered by Atletico Madrid's interest, though he remained coy on a move to Spain.

"Simeone is a great coach who praises me and speaks well of me and what I am doing, but I will continue working hard here [at Racing]," he said.

"The ovation of the people gives me goosebumps, and every day I feel happier here."
