Done Deal: Chelsea sign Willy Caballero on a free transfer
Willy Caballero has joined Chelsea

Caballero was released by City when his deal at The Etihad expired at the end of June.

And Chelsea were delighted to officially announce just hours later that Caballero, 35, had joined the Stamford Bridge club.

Caballero, understudy at City to first Joe Hart and then Claudio Bravo, will immediately become No.2 to Belgian Thibaut Courtois following Asmir Begovic’s exit to Bournemouth.

Premier League newcomers Newcastle and Brighton both made offers to Caballero but once Chelsea showed interest there was no contest for his signature.

Caballero said: “I’m very happy to join the champions of England.

"I’m looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success.”

Sporting director Michael Emenalo said: “We are very happy to have Willy on board.

"He knows the Premier League and is tried and tested at the top of the game.

"We look forward to welcoming him to the club when the squad returns for pre-season training.”

Caballero leaves the Etihad with special memories from his three seasons, making 47 appearances and winning the 2016 League Cup after his penalty shoot-out heroics against Liverpool.
