Jose Mourinho says Manchester United's squad are incredibly tired
The Red Devils drew 0-0 with their cross-city rivals in a game that Pep Guardiola’s side largely dominated.
United have played a huge number of games this season as deep runs in the League Cup and the Europa League have combined with the regular Premier league fixtures.
And the games have taken their toll on the side, with Eric Bailly being the only healthy centre-back left and Paul Pogba missing with a hamstring strain.
"Of course with so many problems, with so many injuries, with so many matches there is incredible fatigue,” said Mourinho after the game at the Etihad.
"The boys gave absolutely everything. The first half was what we wanted - we controlled totally and quite easily defensively and had the game under control.
"In the second half we could not have the beginnings of a counter attack - we were losing the ball too early."
The draw means United stay one point behind City in the league as they battle for a top four spot.
