Wales and Aston Villa left-back Neil Taylor was given a straight red card for a horror tackle in the 69th minute.

There was immediate concerns for Coleman from his team-mates and manager Martin O'Neill.

Striker Shane Long hugged Coleman whilst he was being treated, visibly being disturbed by what he had seen.

The 28-year-old was stretchered off three minutes after the incident and was being given oxygen by the medics.

Physios were attempting to hold his right leg in position during the treatment on the pitch.

The fact TV replays weren't shown suggested straight away the damage done was graphic.

The game, which finished 0-0, had just started to get heated after Gareth Bale was booked for a bad tackle himself moments before the Coleman incident, meaning he will miss Wales' next game.

Real Madrid star Bale told Sky Sports of the injury: "We never wish that on anybody.

"Obviously I don't know how bad it is. All of us wish him a speedy recovery."

Coleman's team-mate James McClean said: "I haven't seen him. I don't want to ridicule the guy for a bad tackle, he knows it's a bad tackle.

"It's not nice for Seamus, but I hope it's not too serious. He's a fabulous world class player."

The news comes as a huge blow to Everton boss Ronald Koeman, who looks set to be without his star man for a long period.

The Toffees are in fine form but will have to do without their right-back for their push towards European qualification.
