While striker Olivier Giroud confirmed yesterday he is close to committing himself to the club, Starsport understands talks with Ozil and Sanchez are stalling.

The pair are understood to be citing the £290,000 a week paid to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba as an indicator of the money they want.

That is more than double their current wages, and the feeling around the Gunners camp is the duo could be on their way in the summer.

Such a pay rise would shatter Arsenal’s wage structure.

The at-times temperamental Sanchez has had periods of hankering for a return to Spain, where he was with Barcelona.

Ozil is also thought to have some regrets about leaving Real Madrid and Man United boss Jose Mourinho remains a huge fan of the German playmaker, having coached him in the Spanish capital.

If they do not re-commit to the club, the north Londoners could be forced to cash in this summer or risk losing them on a free 12 months later.

Chile star Sanchez and Ozil have, like France hitman Giroud, have 18 months left on their current contracts.

Ozil has further muddied the waters by claiming he wants to know whether boss Arsene Wenger is staying, with the Frenchman’s own deal up at the end of this season.

Starsport revealed Wenger has told friends he expected this season to be his last at the club, although it is thought a first title success in 13 years or debut Champions League win could change his mind.

Giroud claimed yesterday he is close to reaching an agreement on a contract extension with Arsenal and hopes to “continue the adventure” at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old France striker has returned to the side in recent weeks to score four goals in as many appearances.

Giroud’s last-minute strike saw Arsenal come from behind to beat Preston in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, a win that came after he netted in added-time to secure a dramatic 3-3 comeback draw at Bournemouth just two days after his "scorpion kick” effort in the win over Crystal Palace.

In an interview with French broadcaster Telefoot, Giroud said: “We are about to reach an agreement for an extension (to my contract).

"It was also a gesture of confidence, I want to continue the adventure here in this family of Arsenal. I feel good here.”
