Accrington Stanley 1 - 1 Cambridge United: Tariqe Fosu rescues a point for Accrington

Tariqe Fosu scored a crucial goal for Accrington as they drew 1-1 at home to Cambridge.

The on-loan Reading winger had only been on the pitch 11 minutes when he finished superbly from 10 yards, slotting the ball home for his first Stanley goal in only his second appearance for the Reds.

John Coleman's men had trailed 1-0 to Jimmy Spencer's goal and the point kept Accrington in the automatic promotion hunt, although they dropped to fifth place in Sky Bet League Two while Cambridge are five points off the play-off places.

There were few chances in the first half with the best falling to Stanley in the 28th minute when Piero Mingoia's cross found the head of top scorer Billy Kee but he could only direct the ball into the arms of Will Norris.

Cambridge had a great chance to open the scoring after 50 minutes when a strike by Ryan Haynes bobbled in the penalty area and Ross Etheridge had to dive to deny him.

United were forcing the pressure and they grabbed the opener in the 55th minute with a fortuitous goal. Stanley defender Tom Davies tried to clear the ball and it hit the toes of striker Spencer around 12 yards out and the ball bounced into the bottom corner.

Coleman made a double substitution after 66 minutes, introducing Fosu and Shay McCartan, and they should have equalised in the 71st minute.

Norris pulled off a superb save to stop Matty Pearson's header nestling into the top corner and the follow-up by McCartan from six yards was blocked.

However, Stanley grabbed a point in the 77th minute when the Reds broke quickly and winger Fosu fired low into the bottom of the net.
