Leyton Orient 0 - 1 Luton Town: Jack Marriott effort enough as Luton edge Leyton Orient

A first-half goal from Jack Marriott earned Luton Town a narrow 1-0 away win at Leyton Orient as they recorded their fourth successive League Two victory to keep their play-off hopes alive.

The deadlock in a feisty first-half was broken in the 27th minute. Orient central defender Shaun Brisley was beaten by an awkward bounce after long kick downfield by the Hatters' debutant on-loan keeper from Derby, Jon Mitchell, allowing Marriott to lob the ball over O's stopper Alex Cisak as he came off his line.

Four minutes later, Brisley was stretchered off after receiving medical attention for 7 minutes, when he collided with Mitchell who had raced out to punch away a cross.

Orient maintained a sustained period of pressure after the break forcing the hatters to defend increasingly deeper but - despite all their possession - the home side seldom extended Mitchell against Luton, whose defence was superbly organised by former O's player Scott Cuthbert.

The league's leading scorer Jay Simpson was denied any worthwhile opportunities to add to his tally for the campaign and it was Luton who came closest to scoring in the second period when a shot by Cameron McGeehan on the counter-attack went narrowly wide of the far post.
