Oliver McBurnie scored a hat-trick on his Newport debut to earn John Sheridan's side a 3-0 win over Luton.

The 19-year-old joined on loan from Swansea on Thursday and took just four minutes to get his first goal as a second-half substitute.

He then grabbed two in the final 11 minutes to extend County's unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions under new boss Sheridan.

Luton's Alex Lawless had tested Joe Day early on before the Newport goalkeeper made a superb save to keep out Danny Green's long-range effort.

Newport's best chance of the first half fell to in-form Lenell John-Lewis on the half-hour but he could only screw his shot wide of the post from Yan Klukowski's knock-down.

Chances were few and far between in the second half until substitute McBurnie did well to turn in Tommy O'Sullivan's cross from the left.

McBurnie then scored a simple tap-in when Mark Tyler spilled Alex Rodman's long shot and he wrapped up his hat-trick with another easy finish from Scott Boden's cross.
