Caen 0 - 0 Angers SCO: Ten-man Caen hold on to secure point against Angers

Ten-man Caen secured a point against Angers after a 0-0 draw at the Stade Michel-d'Ornano on Sunday.

Caen defender Alaeddine Yahia was shown a straight red card after 32 minutes for a late challenge on Billy Ketkeophomphone.

It appeared a harsh decision, but the hosts hung on to claim only their first draw of the season.

The two clubs last met in France's top flight in May 1994 with Angers sealing a 3-2 victory.

But there was to be no repeat feat from the visiting side more than two decades later.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, it was actually the hosts who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half after Julien Feret's shot was palmed onto the crossbar by Ludovic Butelle in the Angers goal.

But after the interval it was the travelling side who will feel they did enough to have taken all three points.

Remy Vercoutre tipped over a Thomas Mangani effort before Cheikh N'Doye spurned a glorious chance after he headed over from six yards out.

Caen then had the woodwork to thank after Mangani's shot crashed back off the bar with Vercoutre beaten.

The stalemate sees Caen move up to third in Ligue 1 behind Lyon on goal difference. Angers are fifth, two points adrift of their opponents on Sunday.
