Millwall 3 - 1 AFC Fylde: Lions kill off Fylde's cup dreams

Alex Whittle's goal was not enough to see Fylde into the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history as Millwall won 3-1.

Aiden O'Brien celebrated being named Sky Bet League One player of the month for October by firing Millwall into the lead after 54 minutes.

Lee Gregory doubled the home side's lead on the hour with his fifth of the season and, although Whittle halved the deficit for Vanarama National League North table-toppers Fylde moments later, Millwall added a third through Steve Morison with two minutes remaining.

The hosts settled earliest but the first half's best chance fell to Fylde's Danny Rowe, who beat his man and rolled the ball past David Forde, only for it to go narrowly wide.

After the break the deadlock was broken by substitute O'Brien as he controlled Morison's header and continued his red-hot form by calmly slotting past the goalkeeper.

The lead doubled on the hour after Gregory converted following some great footwork from Shaun Williams.

Dave Challinor's men, who arrived at the Den having won their last nine in all competition, scored immediately from the restart as Whittle bundled in a goal via a post.

But Millwall killed the game off late on as Morison confidently swept home following a counter-attack.
