Hamburger 1 - 2 Hannover 96: Hannover hit back to shock Hamburg

Hannover came from behind to stun Hamburg by taking a 2-1 win at the Volksparkstadion.

Michael Gregoritsch gave Hamburg a sixth-minute lead, touching the ball in from close range after Nicolai Muller got in round the back of the Hannover defence and sent a low cross past goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Junior Diaz nearly made it two in the 27th minute when his free-kick hit a post, with Muller missing the rebound, and Muller was then denied by Zieler when one-on-one with the keeper.

Hamburg were made to pay for their profligacy on the hour mark when Emir Spahic fouled substitute Uffe Bech inside the penalty area and Hiroshi Kiyotake converted the spot-kick.

Salif Sane headed Hannover in front midway through the second half, stunning the home fans into a silence which endured until the final whistle as the hosts tried but failed to find an equaliser.
