CHILDREN think Jesus is a Chelsea footballer.
MUDDLE: Some kids think that Jesus plays for Chelsea or is an X Factor contestant
Youngsters also think December 25 marks the birth of Santa Claus. A fifth of them aged five to 12 believe Jesus was born in the South Pole.
And a quarter think his mother Mary gave birth to him in a church, rather than a stable, with 10% thinking Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was present at the time.
Other howlers uncovered by London’s Brent Cross Shopping Centre include confusion over the gifts from the three wise men.
Children polled thought he was handed a wand, tiara and wings, rather than gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Some believe Jesus is an astronaut and others an X Factor contestant.
The shopping centre will be putting nativity knowledge to the test outside its grotto this December.
Visitors will be quizzed on a series of festive issues to demonstrate the day is about more than mince pies and presents.
Katie Tucker, Marketing Manager at Brent Cross, said: “With children looking forward to the festive season the whole year round, we wanted to ensure the true meaning of celebration was understood.”
