The Roma midfielder marked his goal against Cagliari by sprinting into the stands to share the moment with his 82-year-old nan, who had come to see him play for the first time
Alessandro Florenzi has explained why he ran into the stands to celebrate with his grandmother after scoring Roma's second goal in their 2-0 win over Cagliari on Sunday.
Mattia Destro opened the scoring in the Italian capital after 10 minutes, before Florenzi added another just three minutes later.
The 23-year-old then caused a shock by running into the crowd to celebrate the moment with his grandmother, who was visibly moved by the gesture.
"She is 82 and had never been to the stadium before,” Florenzi told Sky Sport Italia. "This goal is for her.
"After I played for Italy, she told me that she’d come to the stadium and I would score. My family gave me this passion for football, I want to share my joy with everyone.”
Florenzi was booked for his troubles, but coach Rudi Garcia said after the game that the star would think the fine was “well worth it”.
