One of the areas Atlético want to strengthen ahead of next season is at centre-forward. With Villa looking increasingly likely to stay and Diego Costa as yet undecided, there are several names on the table, but the man leading the way is Roberto Soldado.
The striker, whom Atlético already looked into signing last season before bringing in Villa, is Atlético's number one transfer target. Soldado is also eager to leave Tottenham and England behind and return to Spain.
He is so keen on the move that he has already told those close to him that he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to join Atlético. That said, Atlético are the only side that the striker would be willing to do that for.
The Spurs forward knows that the Manzanares club cannot offer the kind of salaries on offer in the Premier League, around €5m per season, but he is ready to return to Madrid, where he has already played for Real and Getafe.
Of course, the club must also come to an agreement with the London club, who signed Soldado for €30m last season and will not let him go at just any price.
The forward's is not the only name on Atlético's transfer wishlist. Bacca (Sevilla), Jackson Martínez (Porto), Lukaku (Chelsea) and Negredo (City) are also on the club's radar.
