BID SUBMITTED: Liverpool have offered Sevilla £16.2m to secure the services of left-back Alberto Moreno

The Reds have been tracking the defender for a number of months and are now believed to have made an official approach.

The deal is said to include Reds midfielder Suso as a makeweight.

Moreno, 21, is highly regarded in Spain and won the Europa League this season with Sevilla and is in Spain's 30-man provisional World Cup squad.

A number of clubs are chasing the talented defender, but Liverpool have made the first move for his signature.

Sevilla are currently considering the offer the Premier League club have put to them.

GOING THE OTHER WAY: Anfield outcast Suso could be used as a makeweight in the deal

Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to land a left-back and is also interested in Chelsea man Ryan Bertrand, but Moreno is the preferred option.

Rodgers used Jon Flanagan in that position in the final stages of the season, with experienced defender Jose Enrique out injured.

He lost trust in loan signing Aly Cissokho who failed to find his feet in England and has gone back to parent club Valencia.

Rodgers does not want another loan deal for the position as he bolsters his squad for European football next term.

Liverpool's move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can is currently being held up over wage issues and Bayern Munich's involvement in the deal.

The Bundesliga champions have a buy-back clause on the player they sold to Leverkusen last summer and are still weighing up if they want to invoke it.
