Andrés Iniesta has come out and defended Muñiz Fernández after his error in Elche: "The referee has been given a lynching. It's not good for football. It doesn't project a good image abroad."
The Spaniard remarked on his contract renewal in statements to 'RAC-1': "I feel like the best years of my football career are still to come. That's why I want to stay here. They are sporting reasons. If I didn't feel that way, I would tell the president."
"The club's intentions are the same as mine. If my contract has not been renewed yet, it's because it is not time. The only thing I need to know is that the club and I are on the same wavelength, and that's most definitely the case," Iniesta continued.
As for Valdés' future at the club, he said: "There's nothing to be done. We've talked about it plenty of times, but it's not a question of convincing him or not. What can I say to Víctor? At the end of the day, it is a personal decision and I respect that, because he is my best friend in the dressing room."
