The Giallorossi skipper has moved to salute the club's supporters after he signed a new two-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico last week
Francesco Totti says he will "continue to honour the Roma jersey" after celebrating his 37th birthday on Friday.
The Giallorossi captain has made 618 appearances in all competitions and scored 264 goals during his 20-year association with the club, while he has recently signed a new two-year deal.
Totti spoke to Sky Sport Italia to celebrate his big day and to thank the fans and club for their continued support.
''I thank everyone for their affection and birthday wishes. The fans are my strength to do great things for Roma and will help me continue to honour the jersey.''
Commenting on Roma's perfect start to the season, Totti made it clear that it is too early into the campaign to make predictions.
''Roma haven't been on top of the table for such a long time that we need to stay on the right track, though there is still a long way to go.''
Team-mate Daniele De Rossi joked on Friday that his 'future captain' tag will last forever because the club's current skipper is still showing no sign of giving up the armband.
And Totti revealed his unique friendship with the midfielder, saying: “I have a special rapport with Daniele. On the one hand I hope he can become Roma captain as soon as possible, but on the other that it’s as late as possible because that would mean I’d no longer be able to play.”
Roma are looking to earn their sixth win out of six when they host a winless Bologna on Sunday evening.
