Goals from summer signings Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon ensured that the Partenopei are at the summit of the Italian top tier
Napoli propelled to the top of Serie A with a 2-0 win over Atalanta on Saturday, following AC Milan, Inter and Juventus dropping points with draws.
Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon got the goals but the visitors were hardly helped after Luca Cigarini was sent off against his former club for two bookable offences.
Napoli rotated their squad for the clash with Wednesday's Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund in mind and they were only able to break down Atalanta after Marek Hamsik came on.
Rafa Benitez pleaded with fans and critics to reserve judgement of his new side until later in the season and says that he needs his players to remain calm following their 100 per cent record from the opening three clashes.
"I am very satisfied, as we won and also rotated the squad to preserve energy," the Spaniard told Sky Sport.
"The key to this team is the cohesion of the group. The fans must always stay this close to us, as their support is fundamental.
"We’re top of the table, but we should stay calm, as it’s still early to judge."
