Eur must be joking
CHELSEA’S stars have been told they will not get a bonus for winning the Europa League.
Chief executive Ron Gourlay gave the Blues players “short shrift” when they asked about their reward for lifting the cup.
A source said: “There’s nothing in the players’ contracts about a bonus for the Europa League as no-one expected them to be in it.
“Now they’re through to the semi-finals, the players decided to ask.
“They got a quick response — the best way to describe it is short shrift.”
Blues are adamant there can be no reward for claiming Europe’s second-tier trophy.
Especially as last season Chelsea became European champions for the first time ever.
Less than 12 months later they failed to reach the knockouts of the Champions League.
Since then they have reached the Europa semis and are favourites to go through to the final in Amsterdam next month after being drawn against Basel.
So the players’ representatives decided to raise the issue with Gourlay. But it was a short conversation.
