The Brazilian defender has penned a two-year extension with the club and declared his happiness with life in Spain.
Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda has signed a new contract that sees him extend his stay at Estadio Vicente Calderon.
The Brazil international signed for the Liga outfit in 2011 from Sao Paulo, and his deal was due to expire in the summer of 2014, but the club has now moved to extend it by two more years.
“I’m very happy. I was working to earn this renewal and I think it is a very good agreement for both parties,” Miranda told the club’s official website. "At Atletico I feel great, it is like my home. Madrid is a city that I love. I’m very happy here.”
Atleti's director of football Jose Luis Caminero was thrilled with the defender's decision to prolong his stay with Los Rojiblancos and was quick to praise his performances over the past two seasons.
"The club has always been clear that it had to extend this player’s contract. He is a defender that gives security to the team and is noted for his positioning and coolness. His great performances made it clear that we should go for the renewal."
Miranda has made 24 league appearances so far this season and scored two goals.
