Sign me up: Heung-Min Son could help Chelsea both on and off the pitch
Chelsea are ready to beat a queue of Premier League clubs to land £10million Hamburg striker Heung-Min Son – and grow their commercial profile in Asia in the process.
South Korea sensation Son, who is rated as one of the hottest properties in German football, has been scouted by the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United in the last 12 months, but Chelsea have stolen a march.
The Blues’ former Director of Football Frank Arnesen is now working at Hamburg, and as part of the link-up the two clubs enjoy, Chelsea believe they will be able to secure Son for around £10million.
According to reports in Germany, Roman Abramovich’s right-hand man Michael Emenalo is urging Chelsea to look at securing a deal for the striker as soon as possible, and has highlighted the potential commercial influence having one of Asian football’s newest stars could have.
The Blues are looking at increasing their presence in China, Japan and Korea to maximise profit in the emerging nations, but despite their Champions League win last term, Chelsea are not as well-known as the likes of United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Son, who has scored nine goals in 21 matches this season, is on track for his best ever goals return in the Bundesliga, and is all but certain to move away in the summer.
