Getafe vs Deportivo la Coruna preview - Borja: We need to win

Midfielder Borja Fernandez insists Getafe must end their winless streak when bottom side Deportivo la Coruna visit the Alfonso Perez Coliseum on Saturday.

That winless run stretched to nine games with a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Real Madrid last weekend and although Luis Garcia's men still retain an eight-point advantage over the bottom three, Borja does not want to entertain the thought of being dragged into a relegation battle.

He told Marca: "It is not the best run, but we have to get over it, if that is on Saturday then even better. Deportivo are struggling and we need to try and take advantage of that.

"We cannot look at anybody else, we only need to do it for ourselves. No-one is going to gift us anything and we need to get out of this situation."

However, the 32-year-old may find his opportunities in the first team diminish once more as Mehdi Lacen and Abdel Barrada have returned from the African Nations Cup, while Pedro Leon is also now fit again after a few weeks out with a knee injury.

Miguel Torres and Alberto Lopo are suspended so Alexis may be forced into playing at left-back and there could be a debut for Sergio Escudero at centre-back.

Meanwhile, Deportivo are in a dire state as they remain rooted to the foot of the table and four points from safety.

Moreover, manager Domingos Paciencia has only one fit senior centre-back available as Aythami joined Carlos Marchena on the injured list so midfielder Jesus Vasquez seems set to deputise at the back alongside Ze Castro.

Paciencia told Marca: "It is not what we wanted. It is a shame to have all these problems in defence at an important and difficult moment.

"We can't hide, because we know the situation isn't good, but in these circumstances we have to be strong and know that there is still time to turn this around.

"Getafe play with two strikers that work very hard and stretch the play. It is a team that doesn't have complicated processes, but sensible and good ones so it is not going to be easy."
