Liverpool are considering a shock move to sign Barcelona’s highly-rated keeper Victor Valdes.
The Catalans’ shot-stopper has yet to sign a new deal, which has alerted Brendan Rodgers and his scouting team.
Rodgers’ own No.1 Jose Reina has been continually linked with Arsenal and could be sold if Valdes plumps for a move to Anfield.
However, the Reds could face stiff competition for his services with many clubs in England also eager to purchase the Spaniard, not least rivals Manchester United who are still to be convinced David de Gea has what it takes to be their long-term No.1.
Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta insists, however, the club are keen for Valdes to stay put.
‘Victor Valdes has not told us that he wants to leave the club,’ he said.
‘We will open talks when the time is right. We have a lot of love for Victor Valdes and we want him to stay at this club.’
