Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has announced he has signed a new contract with Schalke until the end of the 2014-15 season.

The 29-year-old striker's future had been shrouded in doubt recently, with a number of clubs around Europe linked with a move for the player's signature as his deal with the Bundesliga outfit neared its end; however, the German club announced on its official website that the Netherlands international has put pen-to-paper on fresh terms to keep him at Veltins-Arena for another two seasons after the current campaign.

Huntelaar, who has 11 goals in all competitions this season, broke word of the signing himself on his personal Twitter account, telling his followers: "I'm very happy to share this great news with you.. I've signed a new contract with @s04 until 2015..!!"

Club general manager Horst Heldt added his delight that the striker's future had finally been put to rest.

"Together with Klaas-Jan, we had originally targetted next month to enter the crucial stage of talks," he told the club's official website. "The exchange on the subject [of the contract] in the past few months never completely broke down. Above all, I am pleased that Klaas-Jan is now a clear signal for the entire club for the second half of the season."
