Kolarov caught up in race storm
FLASH POINT ... Aleksandar Kolarov

COPS confirmed they will quiz Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov after two fans accused him of making a racist threat.

SunSport understands the Serb had a ferocious 10-minute exchange with the Newcastle supporters, who were waving an Albanian flag at St James’ Park yesterday.

Northumbria Police have revealed the full-back is being investigated and will be interviewed, as well as the fans, by next week.

Serbia and Albania have endured long-standing tensions which erupted in the 1990s after the break-up of the former Yugoslavia.

A statement issued last night read: “Northumbria Police have received a report of racist
language having been used during the match between Newcastle and Manchester City at St James’ Park.

“Northumbria Police take such allegations extremely seriously and enquiries are ongoing.”

City are also set to be probed by the FA after travelling fans threw a smoke canister into the Newcastle family section following Sergio Aguero’s 10th-minute opener in the visitors’ 3-1 victory.

Kolarov was a 37th-minute sub but a complaint was made to stewards, then police, at half-time following an incident while he warmed up.
